Alternatief voor allergie en astma
In het Februari 2009 nummer van het vaktijdschrift voor allergologen, the Journal of allergy and clinical immunology, ruime aandacht voor alternatieve benaderingen voor allergische aandoeningen.
Allereerst een overzicht van de rol van alternatieve en complementaire behandelvormen (CAM). [1] Een duidelijk pleidooi voor reguliere artsen en allergologen om meer kennis te krijgen van CAM, aangezien een groot aantal patienten behandelingen uit de CAM-groep naast de reguliere therapie gebruiken. We citeren even: 40% of their patients may be using and another 50% may be considering use of CAM as part of their healthcare regimen… [2]
Een artikel uit Mount Sinai School of Medicine (niet de minste!) gaat in op de positieve resultaten bereikt met een Chinees plantaardig preparaat bij astma: Evidence from clinical studies supports beneficial effects of TCM herbal therapy on asthma. A number of mechanisms may be responsible for efficacy of these agents. Strong preclinical study data suggest the potential efficacy of food allergy herbal formula-2 for food allergy. [3]
Een ander artikel gaat in op de veelbelovende werkzaamheid van enkele plantaardige middelen, aangetoond via moleculair biologische modellen: resveratrol, quercetine, en magnolol. [4]
