Internationaal Complementair Onderzoek
Terwijl sommigen in Nederland nog menen dat er geen wetenschappelijke basis bestaat voor complementaire geneeskunde, is er al jaren een tijdschrift op dit gebied: THE JOURNAL OF ALTERNATIVE AND COMPLEMENTARY MEDICINE.
In dit tijschrift ook regelmatig een sectie nieuws van de organisatie die dat tijdschrift draagt: News from the International Society for Complementary Medicine Research. De voorzitter van het tijdschrift maakte in het vierde nummer van dit jaar (2007) de volgende opmerking n.a.v. het congres in Munchen:
Research activity within complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) throughout Europe and North America has grown to something that we can all be immensely proud of.
Er gebeurt wel wat in de wereld, alleen niet hier in Nederland. Daarom zijn er nog steeds collega’s die in Nederland denken dat complementair en alternatief achterlijk zijn. Maar wij lopen zelf achter…Wat zegt de voorzitter verder nog:
The quality of the work that we do is now directly comparable to that within conventional medicine and, considering the very limited and fragile academic infrastructure that currently exists within this field….. and, considering the very limited and fragile academic infrastructure that currently exists within this field, is a testament to the achievement of many highly motivated individuals.
Het onderzoek op dit gebied is dus direct qua kwaliteit vergelijkbaar met onderzoek binnen de conventionele geneeskunde, ondanks de nog zeer dunne academische infrastructuur. En als je je realiseert dat er geen farmaceutische industrie achter dit onderzoek staat: voorwaar geen geringe prestatie!
